Although the VJ was a facelifted version of the VH, there were important changes, the most notable of which were electronic ignition, floor-mounted shifters, and, before production ended, retractable seatbelts and front disk brakes. Although the Pacer and Charger R/T were dropped, performance engine options were available across the range, although the E55 option was only available on the Charger 770. The 2 door Chrysler by Chrysler was dropped, however the 2 door Valiant hardtop was still available. The VJ range was Chrysler's most successful model with 90865 vehicles sold.
